4 concrete levers to sustainably strengthen women’s economic empowerment.
Access to land is the foundation of any sustainable agricultural activity and a key lever for the economic empowerment of rural women. In many rural areas, women still face major barriers to accessing cultivable land or securing their rights to use it.
We work with communities, local authorities, and producer organizations to facilitate women’s access to agricultural plots suited to horticultural production. By securing access to land, women can plan their agricultural activities, invest in their farms, and strengthen their leadership within their communities.
Our flagship program provides groups of women farmers with agricultural greenhouses equipped with solar pumps and drip irrigation systems. These facilities help secure access to water while optimizing its use and reducing energy costs.
Greenhouses protect crops from climate hazards and enable women to produce quality horticultural crops all year round. They also improve control of the cropping calendar, making it possible to produce off-season when market demand is higher. This approach helps strengthen productivity, improve harvest quality, and support the economic empowerment of women farmers.
Access to infrastructure must be accompanied by strong skills development. We set up practical training for women farmers to strengthen their technical skills in horticulture, their entrepreneurial capacities, and their collective organization.
Training focuses in particular on greenhouse production, crop calendar management, efficient use of water and inputs, good harvesting practices, agricultural product processing, and financial management. This support helps women better structure their activities, improve the profitability of their farms, and develop their economic and organizational leadership within their groups.
Producing is not enough to generate sustainable income. Access to markets is an essential lever for enhancing agricultural production and strengthening women’s economic empowerment. We support women producers’ groups in improving product quality, packaging, marketing organization, and building links with reliable markets.
The integration of women into agricultural value chains helps secure market outlets, improve selling prices, and strengthen their bargaining power. This dynamic also helps consolidate women’s leadership in local agricultural systems and create sustainable economic opportunities for rural communities.
the Foundation
Our Legacy Foundation is a non-profit African organization working to empower women and young people in rural areas. Its action is rooted in the promotion of climate-resilient agriculture, the development of entrepreneurship, and improved access to productive resources.
At the heart of our work is our flagship agricultural greenhouse program. Through the installation of modern greenhouses combined with efficient irrigation systems and technical training, the Foundation enables women’s groups to grow quality horticultural crops throughout the year. This approach reduces dependence on rainfall, improves productivity, and helps women generate more regular and more predictable income.
The Foundation designs and implements innovative projects that combine technical training, modern agricultural infrastructure, and strategic support. These initiatives help strengthen food sovereignty, create sustainable economic opportunities, and reduce inequalities in rural areas.
Our approach is based on demonstration through action. By working closely with communities, technical partners, and institutions, we develop concrete and measurable solutions that sustainably strengthen impact on the ground.
